Amber has been in the field of education for over 23 years. She began as an elementary teacher in a visual and performing arts magnet school, learning the art of curriculum integration. In 2003 she became Henderson County Public Schools' first Instructional Technology Facilitator and now serves at the district level in Instructional Technology. In addition to her district role, Amber has presented at NCTIES, WRESA's STEM Conference, Friday Institute's Coaching Digital Learning Institute and Google Educator Crash Courses for WRESA. She is a Certified Google Administrator, Certified Google Trainer, Certified Google Educator and has a Masters Degree in Instructional Technology. She has a passion for supporting educators in their journey toward technology integration magic and is honored to be part of the HCPS @Team with Angie McClung.

Angie  Mcclung
District-Level Instructional Technology | Henderson County Public Schools

Angie is a proud member of the Henderson County Public Schools @Team duo along with her partner in crime, Amber McMillan. She began as an elementary Spanish teacher, then moved to the K-5 classroom and enjoyed teaching in a dual-language school in Las Vegas, NV. She is a National Board Certified Teacher and has a Master's Degree in Instructional Technology. Angie's passion for technology started in the classroom, and has developed into a love for teacher training. She finds it incredibly rewarding to partner with teachers to promote digital learning and technology integration. When not playing with gadgets, or enjoying nerdy things, you'll find Angie with her dog, Napoleon.

Ashley Allen is currently an Instructional Technology Facilitator at Vernon Malone College and Career Academy in the Wake County Public School System. She has over 10 years of experience in education, including roles as a traditional and virtual high school math teacher, a Professional Development Instructional Specialist, and a K-12 Instructional Technology Facilitator. Ashley earned a B.S. in both Secondary Math Education and Statistics in 2006, and earned her M.Ed. in Instructional Technology in 2012, all from North Carolina State University. Ashley also became National Board Certified in Secondary Math Education in 2010.

ASHLEY Byars
5TH GRADE TEACHER |  OAK GROVE ELEMENTARY, Wake County Public Schools

Ashley Byars is an NCTIES 2017 presenter and obtained her Master of Education focused on Elementary Education and Teaching from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She has taught fifth grade for six years and also serves as the Intervention Team Case Manager (grades 3-5) for her school. She was recently accepted into the North Carolina Principal Fellows Program and will begin taking classes at NC State in the fall. She stays abreast of the most recent developments in education and is not afraid to take risks in the classroom that are research based and align with best teaching practices. Ashley enjoys providing professional development to teachers and an effort to enhance their teaching practices and student engagement in their classroom.

Ashley McBride is an Instructional Technology Facilitator in Chapel Hill- Carrboro City Schools. She has experience teaching in both the high school and middle school settings and has earned an M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction and an additional Graduate certificate in Computer Education. In addition to her role as an ITF at East Chapel Hill High School, Ashley is also podcaster. Caren Williams

Caren Williams is an Instructional Coach/Title I Coordinator at Elizabeth City Middle School and has 14 years of experience in education in high/middle school. She was a NC Teaching Fellow, holds a BA in History, MAT from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a MSA from Elizabeth City State University. Caren is a National Board Certified Teacher, licensed in Gifted education, and a certified trainer for Learning Focused. She has presented at NCTIES, NCDPI Region 1 BT Summit, and the NC Social Studies Conference. Caren loves collaborating with teachers and sharing best practices.

She spent 12 years in the classroom teaching first and fourth grade, followed by three years as a library media coordinator. Currently she is an instructional technology facilitator for Wake County Public Schools in Raleigh, NC. She has presented on various educational topics across NC and is a co-organizer of EdCampWake. Chuck has worked as an Instructional Technology Facilitator (ITF) in Franklin County for two years. Prior to being an ITF, he taught high school English for three years in Ohio before moving to NC to teach 8th grade ELA, where he was one of the three finalists for FCS Teacher of the Year. Chuck is currently pursuing his Masters in Digital Learning and Teaching at NCSU. He has been a part of both school-based and district-wide professional development trainings. If you attended either the HomeBase Symposium or NCTIES this past year, you may have seen him present on topics ranging from Canvas to Schoolnet to integration of digital tools.

Danielle  Dietz
EC Teacher/ Learning Specialist  | franklin county schools

Danielle Dietz has previously worked as an EC teacher, IEP Team Leader, Department Chair, and Transition lead for Franklin County Schools for the past 4 years at both Bunn HIgh School and Louisburg HIgh School. Danielle was named EC Teacher of Excellence in 2017 and one of three finalists for Franklin County Schools Teacher of the Year. Danielle has a Masters Degree in Secondary Education and a Masters Degree in Special Education. In adiditon to presenting at the North Carolina EC Conference and NC TIES, Danielle has participated in a variety of teacher summer insitutues through National Endowment of Humanities (NEH). Danielle believes that technology can be a powerful tool to provide all of our students with an inclusive learning environment. Danielle will begin a new role as Learning Specialist at Louisburg College starting August 1st, 2017.

David Schouweiler currently works as an Instructor of Educatrion at Lenoir-Rhyne University. After teaching high school science for five years and earning his MS in Instructional Systems Technology, he left the classroom to pursue his PhD in Teacher Education through the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He is passionate about using technology in the classroom to facilitate equity in learning, using engaging instructional practices to meet the needs of all students. He currently studies online science learning in high school. While he originally hails from Michigan, he currently lives in Conover, North Carolina with his wife and two dogs.

Assistant Professor | NC State College of Design

Derek Ham, PhD is an Assistant Professor of Graphic Design and Affiliate Assistant Research Professor of Architecture at North Carolina State’s College of Design. His research interest spans the areas of game based learning, algorithmic thinking, and digital fabrication/making. He completed his doctoral work in Design Computation from MIT, holds a Master’s in Architecture from Harvard’s Graduate School of Design, and a Bachelor of Architecture from Hampton University. In his work, he continues to investigate both virtual reality (VR) and augmented realty (AR) technology to find ways these tools can expand the possibilities of interaction design. Derek has taught previously at Florida A&M School of Architecture, MIT’s School of Architecture, Harvard GSD, the Graduate School of Design, and RISD the Rhode Island School of Design.

After teaching 6th, 7th and 8th grade Math for 20 years, where numbers and graphs rule, I went back to school to earn my Master's in Instructional Technology. Once I received that degree, I was sought after by my district to impact more than just my classes with technology. For 4 years, I have had the pleasure to share with teachers and students how to connect their content and pedagogy to technology. Presently, I am serving Edwards Middle School and Red Oak Middle School in an effort to put that TPACK to work. With the help of my two guinea pigs at home, a daughter aged 13 and a son aged 15, they get a lot of practice before I hit the classroom!

Jamie  frye
ITF/Public Information Officer | Newton-Conover City Schools

James Frye (@mrjamesfrye) serves as Instructional Technology Facilitator and Public Information Officer for Newton-Conover City Schools. Formerly, he was an English and Journalism Teacher at Newton-Conover High School and a Blended/Virtual English Teacher. He is a NC Teaching Fellow and studied education abroad at the Hochschule Magdeburg-Stendal in Germany. James is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy with the University of Kentucky, and he holds an M.A. in Curriculum, Instruction, and Educational Technology from Michigan State University, and a B.A. in English/Education from Lenoir-Rhyne University, where he serves as an Adjunct Professor. In addition to modeling technological and leadership innovation and leading various professional learning, he also serves statewide on the NC Digital Learning Initiative Advisory Board, the NC Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development’s Board of Directors, the #NCed Leadership Team, and is co-founder of Edcamp WNC. He is a member of the NC Digital Leadership Coaches’ Network, and was named an international Emerging Leader by ASCD. He resides in Hickory with his wife and their baby girl.

I love teaching and learning! I am a second career teacher after a successful career as a product manager for several technology companies. I even worked with Kevin O'Leary from Shark Tank!! I have an MBA and a M. Ed. as well as my National Board Certification. I was fortunate to be a Kenan Fellow 15-16 where I followed my passion for science and technology with an internship with PlyGem, a Cary NC building products company. I have been able to extend my Kenan project to include the 4Cs, social studies, and engineering and provide an authentic audience for my amazing third graders.

His professional focus is to incorporate technology into the classroom and drive students towards digial citizenship and leadership while encouraging a world-focused mindset. Karen is a teacher, mom, runner, and technology risk taker. She has taught both 3rd and 5th grades in Wake County Schools for 16 years. She is a National Board Certified teacher and is currently earning her Master's Degree in Digital Teaching and Learning at NC State University. She has led school-wide staff development on many technology topics. She is passionate about using emerging technologies to help students be creative and effective communicators of their learning. She's willing to "just try it" with technology, and then sharing her experiences with other teachers.

She is currently working on a Master's in History at UNCW. Katy believes that technology is essential in the 21st century classroom because not only does technology better engage students, but it innately increases the relevancy of the content to students. She works to partner technology and project based learning together in her classroom and is excited to share her practices at Boot Camp!

Kelly Meyering

Kelly Meyering is an Instructional Technology Facilitator for Franklin County Schools. She offers support primarily for middle schools but has also been involved with professional development for K-12. Kelly started her educational journey at Grand Valley State University in Michigan and then moved South to have a classroom of her own. She taught 4th grade for 7 years prior to earning her Masters in Educational Technology. She is currently the lead coordinator for the #EmpowerEdFCS movement and has presented at NCTIES, FI's CDLi, and the NC Homebase Symposium.

Last year she transfered to New Hanover County School and started working at Trask Middle School Kim graduated from East Stroudsburg University in Pennslyvannia in 2012. Technology has been a crucial part of her approach to teaching. Kim believes that 21st century skills and project based learning provides students with an engaging and meaningful educational experience.

Nathalie graduated from ECU in spring of 2014, and just completed her 3rd year of teaching Kindergarten in Wake County. She taught a year of K at Brentwood Elementary, a STEM school with an engineering magnet, and will begin her 3rd year at Washington GT Magnet this fall. Nathalie loves working with young learners, and helping them grow a love for learning that encompasses technology, creativity, and collaboration. She presented on tech, flexiblility, and collaboration for young learners at NCTIES this past spring (#kindersCAN), and is very excited to share more about these topics at Bootcamp this year!

Paige Horton, Instructional Technology Specialist. I have had the honor of working as an educator for the past 17 years. I began my teaching career in 1999 serving as a business, marketing and technology teacher. Currently, I serve as an Instructional Technology Facilitator for Person County Schools. Prior to my educational career, I worked as a business manager and training director for 10 years, within the private sector. I received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 1991 and a Masters of Science in Instructional Technology, in 2010. As an ITF, I have a the honor of supporting teachers and students with the development of engaging teaching and learning activities that allow all students to expand their learning experiences through engagement, choice, self-direction and critical thinking. Technology allows all student to explore the world in an inquisitive manner that matches their interests, abilities and levels of readiness. I am very passionate about how technology can open a world of wonder for students that would otherwise not be possible. I love being able to support the use of technology within the classrooms in Person County Schools.

Susan Read is a Digital Learning Coach for Montgomery County Schools. Susan directly supports two elementary schools and provides professional development for all staff. Susan previously taught band and orchestra at the elementary, middle, and high school grade levels. She obtained her Bachelors Degree in Music Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is finishing her Masters Degree in Educatrion in Instructional Technology at East Carolina University. In the Fall, Susan will have also have two chldren at ECU: a senior and a freshman. She thinks ECU should name a buidling after her.
